About us
The Documentation and Information Centre on Antisemitism Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (DIA.MV for short) was founded in June 2021 to raise awareness of antisemitic incidents and the spread of antisemitic attitudes in the federal state. In line with the definition of antisemitism set out by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) and on the ongoing academic discourse, DIA.MV documents, analyses and publishes antisemitic incidents and provides advice to those affected and to all those who take a stance against antisemitism in the federal state. To this end, we work closely with Jewish communities in the state, the Commissioner for Jewish Life in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and against antisemitism, the State Agency for Civic Education and other actors involved in political education and strengthening democratic culture.
We document incidents of antisemitism regardless of their relevance under criminal law. Incidents that do not reach the threshold of violence or justiciability often remain hidden from public attention, but they nevertheless contribute in a significant way to the spread of antisemitic attitudes and to insecurities felt by Jewish people as they go about their everyday lives.
Consequently, we also document and contextualise incidents where there are no direct victims as there would be in the case of a violent crime or verbal hostility. This can include, for example, articulating antisemitic resentment in clubs or professional environments, antisemitic propaganda in public spaces or vandalism at places of remembrance and historical Jewish cemeteries.
Affected individuals, relatives, acquaintances as well as witnesses can report incidents to DIA.MV. We treat every case confidentially and anonymously if requested. If necessary, we can provide support with legal or psychosocial steps.
In addition, we support individuals, civil society initiatives, associations and public institutions that want to engage in activities against anti-Semitism with subject-matter expertise and comprehensive referral counselling.
Our goal is to empower Jews and non-Jewish people affected by antisemitism in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Documenting and publishing antisemitic incidents helps to raise the profile of antisemitism as a problem for society as a whole, to increase public and civil society awareness of the issue and to identify the need for action.
